Vinesh Phogat. India’s daughter Vinesh Phogat is now hoping to get justice at the Paris Olympics.
Harish Salve has expressed his willingness to fight his case. Salve had represented India at the International Court of Justice in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case for just Re 1.
A major incident has come to light in the case of disqualification for being overweight by 100 grams in the final of the wrestling competition at the Paris Olympics.
Now there is hope that India’s daughter Vinesh Phogat will get justice and she will also get a silver medal.
Now this fight will not be fought in the wrestling ring but in the court.
Harish Salve has taken the responsibility of fighting on behalf of Vinesh Phogat.
Noted lawyer Harish Salve has expressed his willingness to fight Vinesh Phogat’s case.
Harish Salve has agreed to represent Vinesh Phogat in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
Harish Salve’s decision came at a time when the Indian team was struggling to get a reputed and big lawyer for the hearing.
Before the CAS, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had asked for more time to select an attorney for Vinesh Phogat’s appeal.
In two instances, Vinesh had filed an appeal against her exclusion. The court rejected the first request to let her weigh in again, thus the gold medal match went forward as planned.
The second appeal was that she be given the silver medal as she had earned it by doing the proper weight on Tuesday. CAS has said that he will discuss the matter.
Harish Salve represented India at the International Court of Justice in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case.
Harish Salve, who had charged lakhs of rupees in a case, had charged only Rs 1 for representing Kulbhushan Jadhav. With his arguments, he succeeded in defeating Pakistan in the International Court of Justice.
Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified for being overweight by 100 grams before her gold medal bout in the 50kg wrestling category on August 7, now faces a crucial legal battle.
Vinesh Phogat’s hopes of winning a medal were dashed when her appeal for a second weigh-in was turned down. But she is still hopeful of a medal as she wants to overturn her disqualification or at least get a silver medal for her performance on Tuesday.
According to the report, four Paris-based lawyers are currently representing Vinesh. But with Harish Salve’s participation, the Indian Olympic Association is hopeful of a favourable outcome.
However, this problem cannot be solved immediately. This comes after Vinesh announced her retirement on Thursday, citing a lack of strength to continue in the game.
