US’s Largest Smart Intersection Network

to Be Constructed by Seoul Robotics

This project is the nation’s largest IoT deployment of its sort.

The largest smart intersection in the United States has revealed its plans.

To establish the network, Seoul Robotics is collaborating with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Center of Urban Informatics and Progress (CUIP) and the Chattanooga Department of Innovation Delivery and Performance.

Seoul Robotics intends to streamline traffic management to lower pollution and congestion, as well as determine the ideal places for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the city, using insights from the data collected at the intersections.

“We will provide more than just city insights through our work in Chattanooga,” stated William Muller, vice president of business development at Seoul Robotics. We are creating a data-driven, real-world testing environment for electric vehicles (EVs), pedestrian safety, emissions control, and other areas.

We are able to collect the most detailed 3D data possible with our scalable network of smart intersections, which will help to revolutionize cities both now and in the future.

The project expands on Seoul Robotics and CUIP’s current collaboration. In 2019, the partners established the MLK Smart Corridor, a private test bed that was the first of its type. This research made use of lidar sensors and the 3D perception software SENSR from Seoul Robotics to track and anticipate pedestrian and traffic movements in all kinds of weather and spot possible collisions before they happen.

The founding director of CUIP, Dr. Mina Sartipi, said, “We never expected the whole new dimension of insights that our partnership with Seoul Robotics on the MLK Smart Corridor brought.”

The level of accuracy and viability has allowed us to make great strides in raising the security, efficiency, and well-being of our city’s citizens. We intend to make Chattanooga a pioneer in smart city technology and a role model for other American communities wishing to capitalize on the transformative potential of 3D systems by expanding the project’s scope.
