Olympics: With a season-best throw of 89.84 meters,
Neeraj Chopra easily advances to the javelin final.
6/8/2024,
With just one throw, Olympic champion and current leader Neeraj Chopra qualified. With a season-best effort of 89.34 meters, he qualified for the final on August 8.
For Neeraj Chopra, it was all or nothing, much like the Tokyo Olympics. On his first attempt, the defending Olympic champion turned in his best performance of the season to get to the men’s javelin final at the Olympics in Paris. On Tuesday, August 6, Neeraj threw 89.34 meters in less than 10 minutes on the pitch of the Stade de France.
Neeraj Chopra competed in Qualification Group B in the afternoon session in Paris, after the victory of Julian Weber of Germany in Qualification Group A with a best effort of 87.76 meters.
Neeraj also put in an early marker, warning the remainder of the Paris pitch.
This throw was just a hair above Neeraj Chopra’s career-high 89.94 meters during the 2022 World Championships.

Neeraj Chopra appeared calm and relaxed as he completed his warm-up activities before exerting a significant amount of effort.
Neeraj broke his season-long mark of 88.36 meters achieved in the Doha Diamond League.
It is noteworthy that this is the best throw he has ever made at the Olympics, beating even Neeraj Chopra’s throw from Tokyo, where he won the gold medal, by 87.58 meters.
ARSHAD NADEEM OF PAKISTAN ENTERS THE FINAL
Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, the 2023 World Championship silver medallist, meanwhile, also automatically qualified after only his season-best first throw of 86.59 meters. Arshad is the only Asian player currently competing who has thrown over 90 meters, and on August 8, he will pose a serious challenge to Neeraj.
Kishore Jena, on the other hand, was disqualified from the competition after finishing outside the top 12 with a best performance of 80.73m. Following the Qualification Group B, he came in ninth.
With the competition for the top 3 spots in the qualification fierce, the men’s javelin final looks to be a spectacular event. Anderson Peters of Grenada, a two-time world champion who struggled with injuries, set a record with a season-best performance of 88.63 meters.
Julian Weber of Germany placed third with a score of 87.76 meters, while Arshad of Pakistan came in fourth. Olympic silver medallist Julius Yego also qualified automatically after recording a season-best time of 85.97 meters.
Jakub Vadlejch, the 2023 Diamond Trophy winner and silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, qualified with a height of 85.63 meters.
