Eight cancer physicians died in the Brazil plane accident when seven more passengers quickly changed their plans.
An official statement said that among the many people killed in Friday’s plane catastrophe in Vinhedo, Brazil, were at least eight cancer physicians who were travelling to an oncology conference.
According to Veopass Airlines, the operator of the aircraft, the ATR 72 twin-engine aircraft, which was travelling to Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo with 58 passengers and 4 crew members, nose-dived and crashed in Vinhedo.
The bodies of all 62 victims including an unnamed person who was later discovered to have been on the aircraft had been recovered, emergency personnel announced on Saturday.
He added that seven of the fifteen doctors who were supposed to be at the meeting boarded an earlier flight.
The Uopeccan Cancer Hospital in Cascavel informed BBC Brasil that two of the hospital’s resident physicians were among the deceased.
Four academics from Unioeste University in western Parana were among the fatalities, and at least eight doctors were on board the flight, according to a citation from Ratinho Junior, the governor of Parana state.
According to rescuers and Brazilian emergency personnel, the majority of the victims’ bodies 34 men and 28 women have been taken to the police mortuary in Sao Paulo so they may be identified.
Vinhedo Mayor Dario Pacheco stated early on Saturday that the bodies of the pilot and co-pilot had been identified.
According to regional carrier Voepass, the victims comprise four individuals holding dual citizenship: three Venezuelans and one Portuguese woman.
According to firefighters at the scene of the crash, officials are identifying the victims by looking up physical traits, paperwork, and personal items like cell phones in addition to seat assignments.
Henguel Pereira, the coordinator of state civil defence, reports that relatives of the victims are being transported to São Paulo to provide DNA samples that will help identify the remains.
At a news conference in Vinhedo, Marcelo Moreno, the head of the Brazilian aviation accident investigation centre Cenipa, revealed that investigators are looking into the plane’s “black box,” which includes voice recordings and flight data.
